#1) Natural Vitality Calm Magnesium.
I cannot imagine who would not benefit from daily use.

More is needed during stress or physical exercise.
This stuff is gold in terms of long term health gains.

Magnesium controls about 300 different functions in the body that equate to about 1800 other biochemical functions, from supporting nerves to muscles.  It's my #1, and is for other medical professionals I have been able to learn from.

Ahoy Ebokians!

In today's segment, you will have yet another opportunity for self discovery!  I have been trying to communicate the concept of bowing to your Sat Nam, and my mantra experience ever since joining eboka community, and there has been a major gap in my ability to translate this enough where any interest is piqued.  It's like I am speaking in a foreign language (it's Sanskrit)....LAUGH!   :o

Let me try some new approaches in this thread, because it is the foundation to healing, at least one of the 3 pillars that supports mine.  And if we are all one, and everything is one, ya'll best be gettin on the train.

Found this today, just another guy writing an article it seems.  Sourcing is huge, and I haven't done my due diligence on these guys, but it doesn't matter.  The message is there which is what matters for the sake of the thread.  Aprobeche!!

The Moon Is The Limit
By Kriss31 March, 2013No Comments

What if I told tell that you could have all you ever wanted and more?
What if I told you that you have everything you ever thought you needed inside of you today?
Would you believe me? Or better…would you allow yourself to believe in yourself?
I am not writing any of this to shock anyone, or to suggest I have the power to give you all that you want. What I am doing, is sharing with you all that in order to get what you want, you must pull the gifts (which lie inside of us all) out. You must stop underestimating yourself. You must stop telling yourself that you can and will not do any better if you try. Most of all, you must stop pretending that your dreams are just figments of your imagination. Your dreams, desires, aspirations, goals, wants, and ambitions can and will be yours when you align yourself with yourself.
What do I mean when I say “align yourself with yourself?” Well, I believe that we all have to be in touch with who we are to truly be aligned with ourselves. We have to be truly comfortable being alone and comfortable within our own skin to feel aligned with ourselves. We have to all embrace the fact that with our strong points come flaws, but our flaws should not be the focal point of our thinking and cause of regression.
I believe that the majority of people spend the majority of their lives focused on what is not possible. People say things all the time like, “I do not have enough money to do that, or I do not have the experience to get involved in this, or I do not have the right connections to get a job in that area.” We all limit ourselves. We all say things which demoralize us. We all sell ourselves short.
The funny thing, is that we actually have no limits. As free thinking, acting, and feeling creatures the sky is actually the limit… and for some of us…
The sky is just the starting point of possibility.
On of one my walls in massive size 140 print I wrote the following quote and read it everyday. The quote, written by an anonymous party state, “Do not tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon.”
That is a phrase I will never forget and a phrase that fuels my personal and professional fire on a daily basis.
Go on a journey of imagination with me for a moment..
If it is night time where you are, as it is where I am, take a good look at the moon. Does it even seem real to you? To me it just looks like this amazing beacon of spherical photoshopped light in the sky. The moon looks surreal to me because I know nothing about the moon other than the fact that the moon is the closest large area of mass in the atmosphere nearest to the earth. I can imagine what it looks like, craters and all, but I have no experiences with the moon other than what I can read, see, and think about. Nonetheless, to me the moon is much more than a source of dim light in the night skyline. The moon to me…. is an ideal.
What is an idea exactly you may be asking?  Well, an ideal is pretty much a goal of the highest caliber  An ideal is a goal that if we hit, we will celebrate, but if we do not we will celebrate anyways knowing we dedicated our lives to reaching that goal.
The moon, to me, is my ultimate end. The moon symbokizes a changed world. A world based on love, community, and respect.
The moon is what I am going to dedicate my life shooting for. I want to impact the world, and the moon symbolizes changed world to me.
I know this article has gotten a bit abstract, but stay with me, here is where all this “moon talk” ties together for us all….
We all have gifts inside of us. Yet most of the time we are too busy living in misery to really utilize opur gifts. We are too busy being concerned with “what we do not have,” rather than being appreciative for “what we do have (both internally and externally).” This is not totally our faults. We live in a world where material possessions are our main focal point. Where self development is underrated. Where we are taught to believe we are all different and should feel separate, rather than feeling the same and coming together as a nation (and even a world). We all are at a HUGE disadvantage, if we allow ourselves to be consumed by the disadvantage.
Everyone around us is conditioned to be scared self loathing separtists. We can be one of these people too. We can let the media control our thoughts, we can let the evil in the world control our emotions, and we can let people dictate how we feel on a daily basis.
We can recognize that the world is a cold place, people are conditioned to feel scared, and that evil is always going to exist. We all have the power to be consumed by the “way the world is”p or  reach into ourselves, pull out those traits which define us, and make the best of this so called life. Once we learn to accept the world (today) as it s, the easier it will be for us all to stop focusing on all we do not have, and start focusing on all we do have (right inside of us).
We all have the ability to change the direction of our lives at any time. Why not make right now that time?! With change comes massive relfection. Reflection is best achieved while being alone  Therefore, if we want to change we have to accept the fact that we are going to be rather alone while connecting to ourselves (our souls). The best part is, the more time we spend alone the more we will feel comfortable in our own skin. Once we are comfortable in our own skin we will start to value who we are and what we can offer to ourselves, others, and the world.
Self esteem is the key to change.
Spending time alone reflecting is the best way to align ourselves with ourselves.  Once we feel at peace within ourselves, and happy with who we are, we are going to start feeling like our dreams are something more than just lofty happy thoughts. Our dreams will start to guide us in the direction we want our lives secretly to go. Once we develop dreams, our minds will start to subconsciously set goals, after all… we aren’t going to reach a dream without action.
Here is where ideals come into play…
Think about the moon. Think about how far away the moon is. Think about how people actually walked on the moon. Now think about your life, your goals, and your end game.
In order to reach you ideal, your moon, you have to first work on yourself. Build your foundation of self esteem through reelection.  Once you feel good about you then start dreaming. Once you can see the dreams in your mind, pull all your gifts out of yourself. Forget about teh fact that you work for 10 bucks an hour, forget about not having the right degree, only focus on what matters, and that is your gifts.
Look at the moon tonight, tomorrow night, and every night. Look at how beautiful it is and how you are determined to “walk on the moon,” in your own way. People once thought space travel was impossible. As I started before, nothing is impossible, we have no limits. We all impose limits on ourselves though destructive thought. Destructive thoughts root from fear, and fear stems from in all when we are not aligned with ourselves.
We all can have all that we want out of life. We can marry the person of our dreams. We can have the career that we have our heart set on. We can live in love everyday and have peace of mind, body, and soul.
All we have to do is go through the process. We have to appreciate the people that we are. We have to rid ourselves of limiting thoughts. We have to see our dreams in our minds and create our own ideals. If we can do all these, the sky is the limit. Or should I say, the moon is the limit….

Diet & Recipes / Coconut Oil--Medium-chain triglycerides
« on: January 22, 2014, 08:39:17 PM »
It also does wonders with cannabis.....OOOOOOWEEEEE!!   A few interesting points from this article:

Have you or someone you know ever been in a serious car accident? I mean serious enough that you had to be rushed to the hospital and spend time in the intensive care unit. Or maybe you've come down with a life-threatening illness. Or perhaps due to age you've been hospitalized to treat some degenerative condition. In any of these situations, whether you lived or died depended on the care you received in the hospital. Often this required you to be fed intravenously or through a tube. In the intensive care unit there would be others, some suffering from complications from genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis or epilepsy and perhaps even premature infants struggling to survive their first few weeks of life. In each of these cases you and these other patients can give some of the credit for your recovery to coconut oil. Yes, in one form or another, coconut oil was part of your treatment.

Regardless of the condition, recovery requires good nutrition. Food scientists have long noted the nutritional benefits of medium-chain triglycerides. MCT from coconut oil are used in hospital formulas to feed the very young, the critically ill, and those who have digestive problems. It makes up a vital part of the solutions fed to patients intravenously or through a tube inserted down the throat. If you were ever given formula as a baby you took advantage of the health-promoting properties of coconut oil. MCT from coconut oil have been added to baby formula for decades.

The digestive health advantages of MCT) over LCT are due to the differences in the way our bodies metabolize these fats. Because the MCT molecules are smaller, they require less energy and fewer enzymes to break them down for digestion. They are digested and absorbed quickly and with minimal effort.

MCT are broken down almost immediately by enzymes in the saliva and gastric juices so that pancreatic fat-digesting enzymes are not even essential.1 Therefore, there is less strain on the pancreas and digestive system. This has important implications for patients who suffer from digestive and metabolic problems. Premature and ill infants especially whose digestive organs are underdeveloped, are able to absorb MCT with relative ease, while other fats pass through their systems pretty much undigested. People who suffer from malabsorption problems such as cystic fibrosis, and have difficulty digesting or absorbing fats and fat soluble vitamins, benefit greatly from MCT. They can also be of importance to people suffering from diabetes, obesity, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis Crohn's disease, pancreatic insufficiency, and some forms of cancer.

As we get older our bodies don't function as well as they did in earlier years. The pancreas doesn't make as many digestive enzymes, our intestines don't absorb nutrients as well, the whole process of digestion and elimination moves at a lower rate of efficiency. As a result, older people often suffer from vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Because MCT are easy to digest and improve vitamin and mineral absorption they should be included in the meals of older people. This is easy to do if the meals are prepared with coconut oil.
In the digestive system MCT are broken down into individual fatty acids (MCFA). Unlike other fatty acids, MCFA are absorbed directly from the intestines into the portal vein and sent straight to the liver where they are, for the most part, burned as fuel much like a carbohydrate. In this respect they act more like carbohydrates than like fats.2

Other fats require pancreatic enzymes to break them into smaller units. They are then absorbed into the intestinal wall and packaged into bundles of fat (lipid) and protein called lipoproteins. These lipoproteins are carried by the lymphatic system, bypassing the liver, and then dumped into the bloodstream, where they are circulated throughout the body. As they circulate in the blood, their fatty components are distributed to all the tissues of the body. The lipoproteins get smaller and smaller, until there is little left of them. At this time they are picked up by the liver, broken apart, and used to produce energy or, if needed, repackaged into other lipoproteins and sent back into the bloodstream to be distributed throughout the body. Cholesterol, saturated fat, monounsaturated fat, and polyunsaturated fat are all packaged together into lipoproteins and carried throughout the body in this way. In contrast, medium-chain fatty acids are not packaged into lipoproteins but go to the liver where they are converted into energy. Ordinarily they are not stored to any significant degree as body fat. Medium-chain fatty acids produce energy. Other dietary fats produce body fat.

Okay, here we go:  This thread can be whatever we want it to be!  Just think...

I started this post on an earlier thread on this board (If enough folks read than we will copy and paste for this "Magnesium" Topic.

I have consciously relied on Magnesium in many forms over the last few years (i.e. Stearate, Oxide, whole food sourced....epsom salt baths, nature made is cheap, I think oxide is the active ingredient in laxatives...).  Anyway, they the point being, Ma saturation is key to a healthy and happy existence.  It has over 1000 roles in the body that we know about.....that we know about!

Since it competes with calcium for absorption, I have been relying on a higher dose of Ma at night, since I have to have my calcium in the AM.  It's a better cycle and you get more bang for your buck, IMHO.  I am confused as to how there are still products on the market that are 3 minerals supplements, where calcium and Magnesium are 2 of the 3 (I think zinc being the 3rd).  This would theoretically be a waste of sorts.

Thought this was worth sharing.....especially regarding the Ma orotate.  However, he does mention how Ca is needed to absorb Ma, so there is a relationship there that is just not quite understood, I think...

9 Common Types of Magnesium Explained:

Has anyone tried anything in orotate form?  If so, please share experiences....

The ole' arsenal of supreme nutrition is just growing so fast.  Not a bad thing, but I am finding that supplements can be so strong, that you really need to monitor them like drugs (medicine).  Hipprocrates said it best....

I will continue to share as much info as I can on the wonderful medicines/foods I have incorporated to maintain vitality and health....

I have been on straight Chaga extract, Paul Stamet's brand.  He seems to be the mycologist gaining the most recognition.  What a noticeable difference!  My body really started looking forward to my daily 1ml dose.  That's another phenomena to explore later I suppose :)  Just a bit of info:

The “Gift from God”
Rather than soft like a mushroom, chaga is hard, almost as hard as wood. It is unique, nothing like common mushrooms. In fact, chaga is the most nutritionally dense of all tree growths. Known by the Siberians as the “Gift from God” and the “Mushroom of Immortality,” this vibrant growth has been used by humans to support health for thousands of years. The Japanese call it “The Diamond of the Forest,” while the Chinese deem it “King of Plants.” For the Chinese that is saying a lot, since they have an immense history with countless plants. Now, you can get the great powerful secret of the Orient through North American Herb & Spice’s wild chaga supplements. Despite this exceptional status, most Americans are unaware of it.
To survive in harsh climates, chaga concentrates natural compounds for its protection, and that is why it is so powerful. To strengthen the tree, as well as heal, it makes potent phytochemicals, including sterols, phenols, and enzymes. Researchers have inoculated sick trees with chaga to strengthen them. People benefit by consuming these forest-source phytochemicals and nutrients.

...isn't it though.   :D

Looks like I might have to find a way to incorporate beets and wheat germ into my diet... Otherwise I cover just about all the others on the list I think.  There are many other articles that talk about other foods such as raw almonds (specifically for dopamine) as well that I can post in the future if people are interested in this thread.  It's pretty amazing what you can do when you know the power of food.

There are many other natural ways to increase positive brain chemistry such as UV light from sunshine.

I have not followed this blog yet, but I was compelled to post this in the board that I moderate very loosely  ;)

I know I have been absent lately and not fulfilling my duties to the fullest as a moderator.  For this I apologize, I have needed to take some time for myself.  I will be back online as often as possible.  Please know Ebokia, I am here.

The use of magnets by
DR. Dale Bakhast PD.D
The natural effects of the Earth’s magnetic field are considered to play an
essential role in the health of humans and animals. When the first astronauts
returned to earth complaining of weakness, fatigue and lassitude, NASA
concluded that their symptoms resulted from the lack of a planetary magnetic
field in outer space. To resolve the problem, NASA placed magnets in the
astronauts’ space suits and space travel vehicles, and astronauts have
returned to Earth without these symptoms ever since.
In the absence of a magnetic field, the level of charge of subatomic particles
diminishes, resulting in the reduced overall charge of atoms. This process
causes nutritional elements to become depolarized, thus rendering them
almost unusable by the body. Accordingly, the biological system may develop
characteristics of imbalance and impaired function. Therefore, exposing the
body to certain magnetic fields restores the subatomic and bioenergetic
balance of the biological organism, thereby naturally alleviating many existing
health conditions.
Thousands of years ago, the Earth’s natural magnetic field had an average
strength of between 3 to 5 Gauss. In the present day of civilization, because
of construction, steel buildings etc. that field has been significantly reduced to
a measurable level of only 0.5 Gauss. In light of this fact, the need for using
corrective and balancing magnets to maintain the natural homeostasis of the
body has become more important.
The phenomenon of pain, in and of itself, is essentially the transmission of
electrical signals along a path of connecting nerve cells. The signal is
transmitted from the area of injury or malfunction - the source of the pain
signal - to the brain. The nerve cells along that path of travel, when at rest,
have a charge of approximately -70 mV. The electrical pain signal, when it
reaches each nerve cell, has the effect of depolarizing that cell. The presence
of a supplemental magnetic field provides extra support for maintaining the
natural charge of the nerve cells in the area of the magnetic field. Accordingly,
therapeutic magnets raise the depolarization threshold of nerve cells, resulting
in the potentially depolarizing pain signal being blocked. Therefore, applying
therapeutic magnets to an area near the source of injury or malfunction
effectively blocks the pain. In addition, the ability of the nerve as a whole to
transmit a pain signal is generally slowed down by the presence of a magnetic
field. Because of these additional mechanics, pain relief is enhanced when a
magnet’s negative (receptive polarity) is applied to certain points related to the
pain transmitting nerve. There is no such thing as pain if the nerve
impulse doesn’t reach the brain.
Damaged tissue has been found to emit a positive electrical charge. The
healing process can therefore be accelerated by applying the negative
receptive polarity of a therapeutic magnet to the area of injury, thus restoring
the bioenergetic balance. The mechanics of this process are that the
magnetic field causes blood vessels to dilate, thereby increasing blood
circulation to the area of injury. This serves to remove many of the natural
agents that contribute to inflammation and pain, such as bradykinens,
prostaglandins, and histamines, and also helps to more rapidly deliver healing
agents that are contained in the blood. Magnetic fields also increase the rate
of oxygenation of white corpuscles, which are an important part of the immune
system. In addition to direct bioenergetic support of the immune system,
magnetic fields also naturally lower acidity in the body, making it more difficult
for microorganisms to survive.
As a result of such effects, magnet therapy can function as an antibiotic,
eliminating many microbes, viruses, bacteria, and fungi, including strains that
may be resistant to pharmaceutical antibiotics or other drugs.
The pineal body of the brain, the organ that is responsible for production of
the hormone melatonin, is highly sensitive to electromagnetic stimuli. In fact,
the pineal body has a dual function as an electromagnetic sensory organ, and
has been found to play a significant role in dream states, altered states of
consciousness, meditation, and even extrasensory perception (ESP).
Recently, it has also been discovered that the cells of the brain themselves
contain a substance called magnetite.
Magnetite is a naturally occurring crystalline material with weak magnetic
properties, and which receives its charge from the Earth’s magnetic field. As a
result of these mechanics, applying a therapeutic magnet to the head
stimulates production of the hormone melatonin, thereby improving the quality
of sleep, balancing the person’s sleep cycle, and otherwise facilitating
relaxation and altered states of consciousness. Accordingly, therapeutic
magnets can also be effectively used to balance and overcome the effects of
"jet lag," the sudden change in time zones experienced by international
Permanent magnets also function to generally enhance physical energy, and
vitality. The healthy functioning of cells in the body depends upon their natural
polarization, consisting of a positively charged cell nucleus and a negatively
charged outer cell membrane. As the cell performs its daily functions, it
becomes depolarized, leading to cell decay. Magnetic fields are capable of
penetrating all levels and regions of the body, and can therefore reach every
cell, supporting and recharging the natural polarity of cells. The resulting
effect is to stimulate greater physical energy, strength, and vitality throughout
the body, and even reduce and slow down and mental effects of aging.
For magnets, the "north" pole is conventionally referred to as the "negative"
polarity, and the "south" pole is referred to as the "positive" polarity. In order
to more accurately distinguish the different functions that the two polarities
have, the negative polarity is called "receptive," and the positive is
called "active."
The negative (receptive) polarity of permanent magnets balances meridian
points or areas of the body that are over-stimulated, because that polarity
literally "receives" excess bioenergy from the area where the magnet is
applied. This function can be used for relieving pain, reducing swelling,
calming the nervous system, and promoting a better quality of sleep. It helps
The active polarity balances meridian points or areas of the body that are
under-stimulated, because that polarity literally "activates," or stimulates, by
supplying additional bioenergy to the area where the magnet is applied. This
function can be used for stimulating the immune system, or giving a person
extra physical energy to increase productivity or eliminate fatigue.
The dramatic difference of the effects and functions of the negative and
positive polarities of permanent magnets was documented in the September
1990 issue of the Journal of the National Medical Association. Most
therapeutic magnets on the market are bipolar, exposing the body to both
polarities at the same time. Such magnets rely on the theories that the
magnetic field stimulates blood flow and helps to block pain response, but
ignore the many additional benefits of the proper use of the correct polarity to
achieve different specific effects. They are totally inadequate in the relief of
the pain stimulus.
Furthermore, it is very important to recognize the difference in functions of the
receptive and active poles of therapeutic magnets. Applying the positive
polarity to an over-stimulated area such as back pain can serve to prolong or
exacerbate the symptoms. It is therefore essential to apply the appropriate
polarity to areas of pain.
Applying the negative polarity to an under-stimulated area could serve to
prolong or maintain weakness or malfunction. Therefore, the ideal therapeutic
magnet should allow the user to benefit from the bipolar field as a whole, and
also be designed to allow the user to select only one polarity or the other
when required for specific purposes.
Therapeutic magnets are generally used by attaching them to certain regions
of the body where either symptoms or causes of illness have been identified.
They are sometimes attached by placing them underneath an elastic
bandage, or a belt containing the appropriate magnets both in proper
anatomic position and polarity. They can also be taped over a pain point using
medical tape made of a comfortable fabric.
Because of the gentle and natural effects of magnets, and the fact that they
primarily function to balance bioenergy in the body, they are completely
compatible with all methods and practices of healing, and do not interfere with
any medical treatments or procedures. For the same reasons, while
therapeutic magnets have many beneficial and healthy effects, they are not
intended to be used as a substitute for any professional medical treatment or
procedure. . .

The Muse / Shamans and Spirits
« on: May 04, 2013, 01:45:21 PM »
Meeting Mr. Iboga on flood #4 was my tipping point.  The experience of seeing him with my eyes and my heart, interacting with him, learning from him, that whole experience was undoubtedly the building of the foundation for my spiritual rebirth---for my ability to "see" with the spirit world, and gain healing.  This transformation is all encompassing, and redefines rebirth for me.  I do continue to communicate with the spirit world, and talk about seeing the world with a child-like wonder all over again!!  I do not consider myself a shaman in the traditional sense, because I have never had an apprenticeship or initiation from an elder.  However, some would say that I am developing my own recipe for healing, and you can call it whatever you want!   How about: The Way of the Blue Tiger    ;D

The below link is to a site that Daniel Pinchbeck is the Chief Editor for, I believe (at least he was at one point).  Great site, with great thinkers, so much to offer from this one site for people in this community, and the whole world if they were as receptive.  Here is the link to the full article.  I am studying and living consciousness expansion everyday, and it is empowering to say the least.  I copied a portion of the article that deals with consciousness and intent..  Enjoy!

Definitions are often a contentious matter, particularly in the case of shamans and shamanism. What I offer now is what I have personally found useful in my work with shamans, and within shamanism, for half a century. The following words are not intended to satisfy everyone, or perhaps even most, but they are intended to communicate what I am talking about in this book.

While the work of shamans encompasses virtually the full gamut of known spiritual practices, shamanism is universally characterized by an intentional change in consciousness (Eliade's "ecstasy") to engage in purposeful two-way interaction with spirits. Its most distinctive feature, which is not universal, is the out-of-body journey to other worlds.

Compost Pile / High on Health: CBD in the Food Supply
« on: April 19, 2013, 06:33:47 PM »
Dear Ebokia,

Imagine a world where your doctor asks you if you are getting enough CBD (Cannabidiol)!!  I thought it very appropriate to post this given the celebration that will take place tomorrow.  The balance in nature is easily seen in the make-up of the marijuana plant.  Our connection as humans to this plant feels divine!  One Love,  Blue

Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found within the human body. They've been there for 600,000 years or more, but we've only just noticed it! One of the remarkable things about endocannabinoids is their striking similarity to the active ingredients of cannabis called phyto-cannabinoids. In fact, it was the effort by scientists to understand the exact mechanism by which cannabis works in the body that led to the discovery of the Endocannabinoid System little more than a decade ago.

The science of endocannabinoid medicine has progressed to a dizzying degree in the past few years. There is wider awareness that the 'endocannabinoid system' is the largest neurotransmitter system in the human body, regulating relaxation, eating, sleeping, memory, and, as noted by the Italian scientist Vincenzo Di Marzo, even our immune system.

Cannabinoids promote homeostasis, the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite external fluctuations, at every level of biological life, from the sub-cellular, to the organism. For example, endocannabinoids are now understood as the source of the runner's high.  The endocannabinoids naturally found in human breast milk, which are vital for proper human development, have virtually identical effects as cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Amazingly, the mechanism at work after smoking or eating cannabis, when adults get the "munchies, is essentially the same as what causes breastfeeding babies to seek protein-rich milk.

Universally accepted following its discovery in 1995, the endocannabinoid system asserts it power to heal and balance the other systems of the body by turning on or off the expression of genes. Cannabinoids hold the key that unlocks receptor sites throughout the brain and immune system triggering potent healing and pain-killing effects.

The endocannabinoid anandamide, (Ananda = bliss in Sanskrit + amide = chemical type) a naturally neurotransmitting lipid compound made by all mammals, is basically a self-manufactured "natural THC" circulating within. Anandamide and THC act through the cannabinoid receptors and have similar effects on pain, appetite, and memory, etc.

There are two types of cannabinoid receptors in the body -- the CB1 receptors found primarily in the brain and the central nervous system, and the CB2 receptors that are distributed but primarily found in the immune system. These receptors respond to cannabinoids, whether they be from breast milk, or from a cannabis plant.

Aside from the cannabinoids produced by the body and those found in cannabis, there are numerous substances that interact with the endocannabinoid system, such as cacao, black pepper, echinacea, tumeric and even carrots. But it is the Cannabis plant that produces the most powerful cannabinoids mimicing most closely those produced by the body. No downsides, no side-effects, no drug interaction issues, and so far, no giving up your hard earned funds to big pharma.

Make no mistake, I'm not referring to THC, of which Americans smoke more of per person than any other people on Earth, but rather the "other," non-psychoactive cannabinoid called Cannabidiol (CBD), a prominent molecular component of the cannabis plant.  While CBD does not bind to either the CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptors directly, it does stimulate endogenous cannabinoid activity by suppressing an enzyme that breaks down anandamide. CBD is also a counterbalance to the action of THC at the CB1 receptor, mitigating or muting the psychoactive effects of THC.  Weed enthusiasts would be wise to keep some CBD on hand for when things get... out of hand.

If just 10% of what research doctors are now saying about CBD is true, then this is a discovery with significance similar in medical impact to the discovery of antibiotics. Myriad serious scientific peer-reviewed studies in Europe have pointed to CBD as having almost unprecedented healing power over an extraordinary variety of pathologies. Even the stodgy National Cancer Institute has referenced this on their website.

Surprisingly, there is still little awareness of this outside of the medical research community.  Surely an unknown plant newly found in a remote rainforest with the same medical profile would be heralded as a miraculous cure. But in the last half-century, this particular plant has been better known as an intoxicant than a medicine.

The stigma that obscures wider awareness of its beneficial nature has been carefully cultivated. For decades, Hearst newspapers bombarded Americans with images of Mexicans and African Americans led into vice and violence by the evil weed. In the public mind, cannabis was transformed from an obscure ingredient in patented medicines with pharmacy sales rivaling aspirin, to an intoxicant the use of which would lead inevitably to decline and debauchery.

In a spectacular confluence of politics, racism, corporate greed, and political corruption, the federal government managed to outlaw cannabis for all purposes in 1937, with medical research becoming virtually impossible in the U.S.

Now, in California and around the country, research doctors are peer-reviewing the recent explosion of clinical studies from abroad, as well as conducting their own pre-clinical research without humans. Persuasive evidence abounds that CBD is effective in easing symptoms as well as reversing of a wide range of difficult-to-control conditions, including: rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, PTSD, epilepsy, antibiotic-resistant infections, neurological disorders, and muscular dystrophy.

CBD has no side effects and becomes very effective as an anti-psychotic when given in larger doses. With more antioxidant potency than either vitamin C or E, CBD has consistently demonstrated neuroprotective effects, and its anti-cancer potential is, by all accounts, enormous. Sean McAllister, PhD at California Pacific Medical Center said "CBD could spell the end of breast cancer," and claims it could render chemotherapy and radiation a distant 2nd and 3rd options for cancer patients.

Don Abrams M.D. at UCSF says the studies point to "a remarkable ability of CBD to arrest cancer cell division, cell migration, metastasis, and invasiveness."  The vast impact of the endocannabinoid system on human health explains and validates anecdotal reports of cannabis used effectively for a wide range of health conditions. Studies on the efficacy of CBD treatment are already driving the design and development of precision targeted single-molecule medicines. Indeed, we are hard-wired for cannabinoids.

The US government may not admit the medical efficacy of cannabis, but the global pharmaceutical industry has been researching it for many years. Some 350 scientists from drug-company labs including Merck, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Bristol-Myers Squibb, AstraZeneca, and Allergan (maker of Botox and silicone breast implants) regularly attend meetings of the International Cannabinoid Research Society. They are all trying to develop synthetic drugs that confer some of the health benefits of cannabis without the psychoactivity. "It's a foregone conclusion," says Julie London, M.D.,"that the next decade will see a new generation of Big Pharma medications based on cannabis."

According to Martin A. Lee, author of Smoke Signals, vitamin D combined with CBD could become "the killer public health app of the post-prohibition era." A new CBD/THC medicine for cancer pain called Sativex from the British company, GW Pharmaceuticals, is finishing the final FDA-approval process. While there is no time limit on enduring prejudice, as science reveals more about how the cannabinoid system works, the stigma associated with cannabis use is expected to fade.

CBD-enriched health foods, tinctures and oils are the next revolution in food and medicine. There is currently an explosion of entrepreneurial activity and creativity around making up for lost time with CBD. LA-based cannabis physician Allan Frankel explains that, "up until this past year, it has been impossible to help patients using CBD. Cannabis growers were focused on the stoniest weed," hence, CBD which is non-psychoactive, was nearly lost. Now, more CBD rich strains are turning up, in part because there are laboratories that can accurately assess how much of which cannabinoid is present and check for mold and pesticides.

We are still in the early stages of understanding the synergistic effects of all the cannabinoids, not to mention the terpenoids--the sticky aromatic terpenes that give cannabis its characteristic smell. Research, as well as results in the field, shows that the presence of some THC and other cannabinoids in smaller amounts potentate the healing effects of CBD. The combined effects of the cannabinoids, terpenes and perhaps another 200 other molecules all working together and carefully balanced in nature is what Dr. Ethan Russo calls an "Entourage Effect".

The burgeoning edible cannabis industry until recently was focused on making food items so radically THC dominant that you could easily become catatonic 3 hours after ingestion.  Anecdotal evidence suggests while most people enjoy these powerful treats, many people have had challenging experiences, replete with anxiety, panic, and functional psychosis.

Fortunately, for seekers of good health or for those targeting disease, there are now CBD-rich edibles that don't make you high, such as raw organic cacao from the Green Cacao Company, multi-flavored CBD dominant lozenges CBD-OOS, and other similar products delightful to the palate as well as therapeutically effective.

As the health benefits are better understood, the huge market potential of non-psychoactive CBD-foods will likely be recognized. CBD-rich tinctures, such as Dew Drops Hemp Oil from Denver based Dixie Botanicals sells their industrial hemp oil over the internet with no medical marijuana permit required. Before long, there will be a plethora of food products rich in CBD, essentially creating a new food sector more legitimately called "health food," than what is currently found in natural foods stores.

CBD-rich foods need not make any health claims thus avoiding issues with the FDA. Imagine creamy CBD enhanced peanut butter, cooking oils, cereals, and beverages. Don't be surprised that in a few short years, you will be hearing doctors (not just cannabis physicians) advise their patients to "exercise, and get your CBD." Obtaining enough CBD to make a medically significant difference requires edible, vapor, or sublingual delivery thus avoiding the health risks associated with smoking.

In this fast and fanciful look forward, one should not leave out the inevitable resurgence of large-scale cultivation and production of fiber hemp, a versatile, ecologically sustainable plant with more than 25,000 known industrial applications--everything from hemp clothing, cosmetics, and foods (hemp seeds are a powerful source of protein), to oil-free plastics, hemp surfboards, insulation, and car panels.

Practically speaking, CBD, or what Robert Louis Stevenson called the "golden oil," is but a by-product of the non-psychoactive hemp plant. As you read this, thousands of industrial hemp farms are stripping the CBD-rich leaves and stems from the desired fiber and composting them. It's reasonable to suppose that the tragedy of losing all that medical value for victims of cancer and other maladies will not be lost on those that follow us.

If the cannabis plant hasn't done enough for us--providing wellness for the body and change for the mind, it can also help us pull the petroleum out of our economic jugular, possibly giving rise to a healthier vegetable-based organic life-support system for our children.
